Senior Motion Designer

As a Senior Motion Designer at our Amsterdam studio, you’ll be instrumental in building impactful motion design systems with strong conceptual and strategic foundations. Working alongside art directors, designers, and our broader creative team, you’ll transform ideas into captivating motion graphics and animations that will elevate our clients’ brand stories. You’re a visionary designer who sees motion as an art form that plays a key role across the entire brand and product experience.

As part of the AKQA team, you will work in an environment that fosters a dynamic and inclusive culture, enabled by our multidisciplinary approach and supported by some of the brightest minds in their field. You will report to a Creative Director and will have a close, collaborative relationship with the other Creative, Design, and Experience leads across the studio.

 

ROLE REQUIREMENTS

  • Lead the creation of compelling motion design systems built upon strong conceptual and strategic insights, partnering with art directors and designers to bring them to life.
  • Translate briefs into innovative solutions for complex design challenges.
  • Craft high-quality motion and 2D animations with care and precision across all stages of the design process.
  • Collaborate closely with both client and internal teams to inspire new perspectives.
  • Flex skillfully between motion systems for brand identities and digital experiences. 
  • Create client-facing presentations that articulate your vision, conceptual rationale and guidance.
  • Mentor mid/junior team members to elevate their creative output across various motion mediums, including film, 2D/3D, and video content.
  • Have your finger on the pulse of motion trends and recommend how to integrate emerging 3D animation techniques into daily projects.
  • Take responsibility for project deliverables, ensuring they meet AKQA’s standards for creative excellence.

 

QUALITIES AND CHARACTERISTICS

  • A compelling portfolio that demonstrates the breadth of your motion skills and craft.
  • At least 5 years of experience in motion design.
  • You have extensive experience with After Effects and are familiar with Figma. You are passionate about emerging technologies and motion techniques such as TouchDesigner and Cavalry.
  • Any experience with Houdini, Unreal Engine, and other 3D software is a bonus.
  • You are a conceptual thinker at heart; you don’t just make things move, but have a clear ‘why’ behind your motion principles and executions.
  • You have a relentless drive to learn and grow.
